Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Clinic in Whitby, ON

Let our team of rehab professionals help you build a better body.

Kinesis Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation is a full-service rehabilitation center focused on providing physiotherapy and rehabilitation services to people living with chronic pain and loss of function.

As a company, we want to change the way physical rehabilitation is done in Whitby, Ontario. Our goal was to build a team of committed rehab professionals with a patient-first philosophy. Since we opened our doors in 2015, we have done just that. Our goal with every patient is to identify the root cause of their pain and not just treat the symptoms.

Our three-prong approach of patient education, exercise therapy, and advanced myofascial release techniques has helped our patients reduce their pain, improve their function, and get back to doing the things they love.

Our team consists of two vestibular therapists and an advanced-level pelvic physiotherapist who focuses specifically on women’s health. We offer a wide range of services to help our patients recover from their injuries, including massage therapy, acupuncture, chiropody, chiropractic, and laser therapy.

Rehabilitation can be a long and difficult road, but with the help of our team, you will get back to living your life pain-free.

HOW WE WORK

01.

Thorough Initial Assessment

The first step in any effective treatment plan is a thorough assessment of the patient’s condition. Our team of expert physiotherapists will conduct a comprehensive assessment to identify the root cause of your pain or injury.

02.

Goal-Based Treatment Plan

We want to know your short-term and long-term goals for treatment. Whether you’re looking to return to your previous level of activity, or simply to reduce your pain, we will develop a treatment plan that is designed to help you reach your goals.

03.

Patient Follow-Ups

We offer our patients the option of follow-up appointments to ensure that their condition is continuing to improve. We also offer advice on how to prevent future injuries from occurring. Our goal is to get you back to your healthy, active self as quickly and safely as possible.

foot care / chiropody

Chiropody is the branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the feet. It is also known as podiatry. Chiropodists are trained to assess, diagnose and treat conditions affecting the feet and lower limbs. They use a variety of techniques to relieve pain, improve function and prevent further injury.

FAQ

Do I need a doctor's note to book an appointment?

No. A doctor’s note is not required to receive treatment at our clinic, but if you have private insurance, some plans may require them to submit claims. Please check with your insurance provider if this will be required or not.

What is pelvic physio?

Pelvic floor physiotherapy (PFPT) is a specialised branch of physiotherapy involving internal and external assessment and treatment of the pelvic floor muscles. Those muscles are located between the hip bones and the sacrum, and they serve as a bowl to support the pelvic organs including the bladder, colon and uterus.

What qualifications do our staff have?

All of our providers are licensed and registered with their corresponding colleges.

What should I expect during my first appointment?

You will be greeted by our front desk staff and asked to fill out a covid screening.

You will then be given a tour of the clinic and shown to your room.

In your room the provider will go over your medical history with you and assess your injury to come up with a treatment plan that is tailored to your needs

How many treatments will I need?

The treatment plan is dependent on the situation, intervention used and what the provider sees as the best course of action. There is not a definitive answer until you have seen your provider.

Is there a cancellation policy?

Clients are asked to give 24 hours notice prior to a scheduled appointment. If failed to call in without prior notice, a charge will be reflected on the patient’s file.

How long will I be in the session or clinic during my appointment?

Initial assessments are approximately an hour. Follow up sessions will be approximately 30 minutes depending on the response of the tissue being worked on.

Does OHIP cover any of my treatments?

No. Unfortunately, our clinic is not an OHIP covered clinic.

Does my extended health insurance cover my treatment sessions?

Most extended health insurance plans do provide coverage for all services offered at our clinic. We do encourage clients to check their coverage first to ensure they know their coverage amounts prior to booking.

Do you do direct billing to my insurer?

We do submit your paperwork to your insurer if you require help. Clients pay us directly and get reimbursed by their insurer. All fees are paid by clients at the time of their treatment. We will give you a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement in accordance with your plan.

How should I dress?

Loose fit clothing is the best option. Gym shorts and loose t-shirts are ideal.

Who will see me at the clinic?

When you first visit the clinic, you will be greeted by one of our front desk staff. They will assist you with your appointment or any other questions you may have. If you have an appointment, the staff will orient you to the clinic and show you the way to the room where the consultation will happen.

Are physiotherapy services tax deductible?

Yes, in Canada, physiotherapy services can be tax deductible under certain circumstances. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) allows individuals to claim medical expenses, including physiotherapy, as eligible deductions on their income tax return. However, there are specific criteria and conditions that must be met:

  • Eligible Medical Expenses: Physiotherapy expenses are considered eligible medical expenses if they are incurred for the patient’s treatment, rehabilitation, or management of a medical condition. The treatment must be provided by a qualified healthcare professional.
  • Prescription Requirement: A prescription or a written referral from a medical doctor or dentist is usually required for the physiotherapy expenses to be eligible for tax deduction.
  • Amount Threshold: Medical expenses can only be claimed if they exceed a certain threshold, which is a percentage of your net income or a fixed dollar amount (whichever is less). The threshold may change each tax year, so it’s essential to check the current threshold.
  • Claims for Family Members: You can claim eligible medical expenses for yourself, your spouse or common-law partner, and certain dependents.
  • Documentation and Receipts: It’s crucial to keep accurate records of all physiotherapy expenses, including receipts and statements, to support your claims.
  • Completion of Tax Forms: When filing your income tax return, you’ll need to complete the appropriate sections related to medical expenses and provide the necessary information.

It’s advisable to consult a tax professional or visit the official Canada Revenue Agency website for the most up-to-date and accurate information regarding tax deductions for physiotherapy services and other medical expenses.

Are physiotherapy services GST exempt?

physiotherapy services in Canada are generally considered exempt from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Harmonized Sales Tax (HST). Healthcare services provided by regulated health professionals, including physiotherapists, are typically exempt from these taxes to ensure healthcare remains accessible and affordable for Canadians.
