by | Jan 26, 2025 | Kinesiology

Joining our clinic is Samantha Buckle: a Registered Kinesiologist!

Samantha is a young professional, eager to get people moving. Samantha has spent her education working with athletes and learning how the human body moves through many occupations (sport, work, hobbies, etc.). With her experience as a Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) and Emergency Medical Responder she has been able to acquire knowledge and skills to treat a variety of injuries and conditions across the general population.

So, what is Kinesiology?

It is the practice of health and wellness focused on your physical well-being and exercise participation. Samantha can help to prevent and manage many physical and mental conditions, avoid and recover from injury, improve productivity, and reduce the effects of absenteeism. All while providing more cost-effective care to help prevent more expensive care down the line.

Exercise is a fundamental portion of our physical and mental well-being. While working alongside each practitioner at the clinic, a kinesiologist can provide care in many ways.

What can Samantha do for me?

With Samantha’s education, a Bachelors of Health Science in Kinesiology and a Diploma in Occupational Therapy Assistant and Physiotherapy Assistant, she can provide the following type of services:

  • Myofascial Release Techniques [Including Cupping, FST (coming April 2024), cross fibre friction, etc.]
  • Exercise Prescription
  • MSK Assessment

Is Kinesiology covered under my Extended Health Benefit Plan?

Many extended health benefit plans offer Kinesiology coverage. However, a large portion of them are not automatically included in the covered services. To have Kinesiology covered by your insurance, you need to call and ask if kinesiology services can be added to your benefit plan.

What happens if my benefit plan does not cover Kinesiology? OR There is not enough funding for this expense?

Look into your Health Spending Account (HSA) or Wellness Spending Account (WSA)!

This account is provided to most residents in Ontario with benefit plans. This account covers the cost of regulated health services.

With Kinesiology being a regulated health care profession in Ontario, your benefits will cover this under your HSA or WSA.

Your third option to have Kinesiology services covered under your benefit plan is to ask your plan provider or sponsor that you would like to add Kinesiology services and an HSA to your plan.

How would you be able to do this?

If neither service is covered under your current plan, you can request documentation and use template letters (available upon request) for both yourself, and your employer. We would use this to ask your employer and/or your insurance company to include Kinesiology services on your health benefits package.
